The ONYX has six channels with two inputs per channel. A total of three microphones and nine line sources can be connected. The first two channels feature a microphone amplifier, dual tone control and volume control for optimal speech intelligibility. One of the first channel's microphone inputs is located on the front panel for easy microphone connection. Channel two can be switched from microphone to stereo line; the remaining four channels have dual line-line inputs. Devices such as CD or MD players, radios, video recorders and so on can be connected to these. Channel 6 has a so-called juke-box input. This input can be given priority over the other channels.
The ONYX has a unique zone system that allows two separate mixes to be created from the mixer. This is done using the two zone switches at each channel. Using these switches, the signal can be sent to output A, output B or both outputs. This makes it possible to play a CD in the bar, for example, and hold a meeting in a conference room at the same time.
The ONYX is equipped with a TalkOver switch on the front panel. When this function is active, the microphone signal is given priority over the other channels, so that the microphone is always easily understood. The intervention point of the switch is adjustable.
The ONYX has two completely independent stereo outputs. Each output has its own three-way tone control. The master A output has one balanced and one unbalanced output. With the balanced output, longer signal cables can be used. This allows amplifiers to be placed close to the speakers. Master B output has only unbalanced outputs.
The ONYX has clearly readable VU meters that display the output level. Furthermore, each channel has the option of pre-listening. Each switch has a small LED indicator so that it can be quickly seen which sources are engaged. The sturdy construction and careful choice of materials used make the ONYX a reliable mixer that will provide many years of faithful service.
